The City of Lake Worth Beach's official calendar is one place to look for fall events. Local venues and businesses also list events on their own calendars.
Twelve days ago, as Weekend Broward reported, more than a dozen bands played from 1 p.m. to midnight across the J Street and Lake Avenue corridor for the inaugural Mango Music & Arts Festival, a free Labor Day weekend event that pulled in vinyl DJs, visual artists, food vendors and a lineup running from psychedelic cumbia to surf rock. The festival was organized by a restaurant owner.
Local restaurants, bars and music venues contribute to Lake Worth Beach's fall event calendar.
Mango Fest was founded by Alexandra Dupuis, who also owns Pomona, the restaurant that opened on Lake Avenue last year. The festival spread across the J Street Stage and into venues like Propaganda, with DJ sets from Medley (booked out of Pomona itself) and Furious Rod. As Weekend Broward reported, Dupuis described her goal as straightforward.
"My vision was always to create something that brings people together."
Mango Fest is one example of a locally organized event in Lake Worth Beach.
Other fall events include venue performances and a local triathlon.
The dates are:
Bamboo Room, a 300 capacity room that's hosted acts from Damon Fowler to a Springsteen tribute act called The Boss Project, books its own calendar, as do Duncan Theatre and Brick Alley Tavern.
Lake Avenue's restaurant scene also has new offerings this fall. Pomona, at 717 Lake Ave., brought in chef Johnny DeMartini from Ravish Off Ocean and built a menu around house-brined fried chicken by the bucket and a wagyu hot dog loaded with cabbage, bacon and potato sticks. Pomona's opening is one of several recent additions to Lake Avenue's dining scene.
A few blocks away, Oceanwalk by Benny's on the Beach went through its own overhaul this year, reopening with a new menu under executive chef Angelo Romano, a Palm Beach County native with a decade of New York kitchen experience behind him. The renovation replaced a chronically underperforming air conditioning system and reworked the space's look, and the restaurant came back with a health-conscious menu leaning into raw bar and grilled seafood.
Newer names like Dayane's are part of Lake Avenue's changing restaurant scene. The city's Community Redevelopment Agency also promotes downtown dining. This year it launched a campaign called "Find Your Flavor, Find It Downtown."
The Bryant Park GreenMarket is another part of the fall calendar. It runs Saturdays from October through April along the Intracoastal, with produce and local vendors set up against the waterfront, and returns after a summer break. The market is independently organized and uses a public park, as Mango Fest used public streets.
If you've been wondering why downtown feels different in October than it does in July, this is a real part of the answer. The market's return adds a weekly anchor back to Saturday mornings just as the music venues start filling out their fall bookings.
